OSS GALA 2024
65 Years of Transforming Lives
The Starehe 65th Anniversary Gala celebrated 65 years of transforming lives through education. Alumni gathered to honor Starehe’s legacy, reflecting on its profound impact in providing free, world-class education to bright but needy students. Founded in 1959 by Geoffrey Griffin, Joseph Gikubu, and Geoffrey Geturo, Starehe Boys’ Centre has shaped thousands of students, with Starehe Girls’ Centre following in 2005 to extend this vision. The Gala underscored the importance of the Griffin Memorial Endowment Trust (GMET), which secures education for future generations. Justice Nzioki Musau, OSS President, and Fred Okono, Starehe Boys’ Director, emphasized the urgent need to grow the GMET Fund, with a goal of securing 65 endowments. Patron Honorable Peter Kenneth reinforced the responsibility of alumni to give back, ensuring Starehe’s mission continues. As alumni, we are the torchbearers of Starehe’s future. The call is clear—secure the next 65 years and keep the Starehe spirit alive for generations to come

From Those to Whom Much Has Been Given, Much Will Be Required
Dr. Geoffrey W. Griffin’s message calls on Starehe students to remember the benefits of their education and to pay it forward. His words challenge each graduate to help others enjoy the same opportunities. This call to action was embodied by alumnus Ian Hicho, who cycled 9,520 km over 61 days from Cairo to Cape Town, in a bid to raise 100 million Kenya shillings for student endowments despite many hardships. His journey proves that quality education for every deserving student is a duty shared by all. Though Ian raised three (3) endowments each valued at Kenya Shillings one million, more support is needed to meet the campaign’s goal of 65 endowments and KES 2 billion to secure Starehe’s future. Alumni are urged to contribute and ensure that future generations receive the same life-changing opportunity. Beyond the Green: A Day of Impact and Giving Back
A Legacy of Support and Sustainability
The 10th Annual OSS Golf Tournament took place on September 27, 2024, at Limuru Country Club, bringing together 200+ golfers in support of education. Held as part of Starehe Boys' Centre’s 65th anniversary, the event raised funds for six underprivileged students and contributed to the GMET endowment. Chris Njoroge won the overall title with 49 points, while Njeri Kamau and Michael Njau led the ladies’ and men’s categories. Alliance Girls' alumnae also joined, reinforcing the shared commitment to education. OSS Golf Captain David Nyaga highlighted the event’s impact, thanking alumni, sponsors, and participants for their support. The tournament raised KES 1,036,056, contributing to key projects like the Starehe Boys’ dining hall revamp. As the tournament moves to Muthaiga Golf Club in 2025, coinciding with Starehe Girls' Centre’s 20th anniversary, alumni and supporters are encouraged to participate and sustain this legacy of giving.
